Featured here is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the cult 1970 Hindi film produced, directed and edited by the showman of Indian cinema, Raj Kapoor that also starred him in the lead role.

Mera Naam Joker (1970) also starred an ensemble star cast comprising Simi Garewal, Manoj Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Dharmendra, Dara Singh, Kseniya Ryabinkinam, Rajendra Kumar, Om Prakash, Rajendra Nath and Achala Sachdev.

In this unforgettable classic, Raj Kapoor essayed the role of a circus clown who must make his audience laugh at the cost of his own sorrows. One of the lengthiest films made in Indian cinema, Mera Naam Joker (1970) was released with two intervals in India and as a three part series in the Soviet Union. Partly based on Raj Kapoor’s own life, the film reportedly took six years to make and took up almost all of his savings.

Although a box office failure upon release (causing Raj Kapoor to battle financial crisis), Mera Naam Joker (1970) went on to win praise from critics and audiences alike over the years, becoming a cult classic of Indian cinema.

Mera Naam Joker (1970) also marked the debut of Rishi Kapoor, who essayed the younger version of the clown character played by his father. The film is widely regarded as one of the top 100 films of Bollywood, making this Mera Naam Joker poster highly collectible.

Partly shot in Moscow along with Soviet actress Kseniya Ryabinkinam, Mera Naam Joker (1970) capitalized on Raj Kapoor’s cult fan following in USSR.

A shortened version of the film was re-released in the 1980s, which was a massive success. This vintage Mera Naam Joker poster was printed and circulated during this re-release run of the film in northern India (somewhere in the 1980s), but never ended up being used.

It became a blockbuster hit and bagged the music composers their ninth Filmfare award. It featured the all time greatest Bollywood songs, “Ae Bhai Zara Dekh Ke Chalo” sung by Manna Dey and “Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan” & “Jane Kahan Gaye Woh Din” both sung by Mukesh.
