Featured here is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the old 1982 Hindi film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee that starred the biggest superstar of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan in a double role.

Raakhee, Vinod Mehra, Deven Verma, Om Shivpuri, Goga Kapoor, Aruna Irani, Sheetal, Amarnath, Gautam Sarin, Meena Roy and Asit Sen played supporting roles in the film, while A.K. Hangal made a special appearance.

Bemisal (1982) is the second film to be based on a novel written by Ashutosh Mukherjee, the first being Uttam Kumar’s Bengali classic Ami Se O Shakha (1975).

It was the last film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee that starred Amitabh Bachchan and also one of the last films to be shot in Kashmir before the insurgency began.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan won critical acclaim for his flawless performance as both doctor and (mentally insane) patient in his double role in Bemisal (1982). The film is regarded as one of his best acting performances till date, making this original Bemisal movie poster, highly collectible!

Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1982), this Bemisal movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This old Amitabh movie poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a leading Bollywood poster design studio in Bombay called Loomba Arts.

It features a strikingly accurate side profile of Amitabh Bachchan, hand painted in a variety of shades to capture the density of his character. Actress Raakhee is seen in yet another fantastic rendition on the side of the poster, whereas the two supporting actors Vinod Mehra & Deven Verma appear on the top.

The typography used in this old Amitabh poster is completely in Devanagari Hindi, except for a translation of the title into English.

The soundtrack album of Bemisal (1982) was composed by one of the finest composers in Indian cinema, R.D. Burman, while lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. The song “Ek Roz Main Tadap Kar, Is Dil Ko Tham Loonga” sung by Kishore Kumar became a rage throughout the nation and is fondly remembered till date.

“Ae Ri Pawan” sung by Lata Mangeshkar and “Kitni Khoobsurat Yeh Tasveer Hai, Ye Kashmir Hai” sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar & Suresh Wadkar were other popular tracks from the film.
