Gunda poster for sale.
Featured here is an original Bollywood poster of the classic 1998 Hindi action drama directed by the undisputed king of B grade cinema, Kanti Shah that starred Mithun Chakraborty in the lead role.
Produced by Anil Singh and presented under the Maruti Films banner, Gunda (1998) also starred Mukesh Rishi, Shakti Kapoor, Ishrat Ali, Razak Khan, Rami Reddy, Harish Patel, Mohan Joshi, Deepak Shirke, Rana Jung Bahadur, Arun Mathur and Sapna in supporting roles.
The film told the story of an honest and brave man called Shankar (Mithun Chakraborty) who works as a coolie (porter) at a shipyard. Along with his father who is a policeman, Shankar stands up against the criminal activities of mafia don Bulla (Mukesh Rishi) who has patronage from corrupt politician Bachubhai Bhigona (Deepak Shirke). In retaliation, Shankar’s sister is brutally raped and killed by Chuttiya (Shakti Kapoor) while his father is strangled to death by police inspector Kale (Rana Jung Bahadur) – both of whom are Bulla’s cartel members. Shankar sets out to exact revenge for his family’s death by hunting down and eliminating members of Bulla’s cartel one by one.
Gunda (1998) is unanimously considered, “a film that is so bad that it is actually good.” The film has amassed a cult fan following among netizens and it’s dialogues have been a part of countless social media memes. Due to the significant number of double entendres used in the dialogues of Gunda (1998), the censor board rejected the film’s certification citing obscene language. However, the film was later released, albeit with an adult (A) rating.
Printed and circulated during the film’s first release in theaters (somewhere in 1998), this Gunda movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Led actor Mithun Chakraborty is seen in a striking full length photograph pointing an RPG prominently on the left of this original Bollywood poster. A smaller still photo featuring Shakti Kapoor wielding a serrated machete is seen below. Mukesh Rishi is seen holding a machine gun on the right. A large close up photograph of Mohan Joshi appears on the top right of this original Gunda poster.
Typography used in this Mithun poster is completely in English, except for the film’s title which is translated to Devanagari Hindi on the top. The main English title of the film is seen in yellow in a dripping 3D font encased in black. A small silhouette drawing of the film’s protagonist Mithun Chakraborty holding a burning torch is seen illustrated inside the title.
The soundtrack album of Gunda (1998) was composed by Anand Raaj Anand.
