This is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster for sale of the 1994 cult Hindi drama that was directed by Shekhar Kapur and starred Seema Biswas in the title role of Bandit Queen.

The film was a biographical based on the life of Phoolan Devi – a notorious female bandit who later became a Member of Parliament.

Bandit Queen won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie and Best Direction. The film was premiered in the Director’s Fortnight section of the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, and was screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Bandit Queen was also selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 67th Academy Awards, making this Bandit Queen film poster, highly collectible!

This original Bollywood movie poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film during the first release of the film (somewhere in 1994) but never ended up being used.

This Bandit Queen movie poster was originally designed by hand using a photographic collage technique by an art studio. The process involved cutting photos by hand using a pair of scissors or a blade and pasting the same on a board. The background and lettering in this bandit queen movie poster were then hand painted. Most of the credits were typed using a typewriter and then pasted on to the master design of this Bollywood original poster.

Lead actress Seema Biswas is seen in a stunning close up that has been cropped to reveal only her intense eyes and her iconic red bandana. A key mass execution scene from the film is seen at the bottom of this Bandit Queen poster. The top of this original Bollywood poster reads, “Revenge was her reply,” giving away the plot of the film.
