Shree Radha poster painting art for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original movie poster of the 1959 devotional Bangla film directed by Surendraranjan Sarkar that starred Sabita Chatterjee in the titular role of Radha.
Produced by Ananga Pictures, Sree Radha (1959) also starred Chhaya Devi, Padma Devi, Renuka Ray, Gita Singha, Gitasree, Shikha Rani Bag, Ratna Goswami, Mahendra Gupta, Shyam Laha, Nripati Chattopadhyay, Nabadwip Halder and Moni Srimani in supporting roles.
The film was based on the life of Shree Radha, the supreme beloved consort of Lord Krishna. Revered by Hindus as a goddess of love, compassion and devotion, Shree Radha is also affectionately known as Radha Rani (Queen Radha). Devotees of Krishna often chant “Radhe-Krishna” during worship and the phrase is often used in salutations and greetings.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1970s/1980s), this Shree Radha poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bengali cinema poster was originally designed in hand painted format by a poster art studio in Kolkata and features striking artwork.
The lead pair portraying Lord Krishna and Shree Radha are shown in a beautiful hand drawn illustration at the center. A large Om symbol encases the artwork. Aum or Om is revered by Hindus as the first sound of creation from which the universe emerged. Representing the universe’s ultimate reality, Om is an important part of Hindu chanting and worship. The forest of Vrindavan where Shree Radha and Krishna are believed to have performed Rasleela (divine dance) is seen in the background of this old Bengali cinema poster. The distributor of the re-release of the film, Lakshminarayan Film Distributors, is credited at the bottom.
Typography used in this Shree Radha poster painting is entirely in Bengali, with the title appearing in a very creatively styled font in yellow accentuated with a black border, standing out in stark contrast against a red background.
The soundtrack album of Sree Radha (1959) was composed by Pabitra Chattopadhyay.
