Arjun Pandit poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1976 Hindi film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee that starred Sanjeev Kumar in the titular role as Arjun Pandit.
Produced and presented by L.B. Lachman under his LB Films banner, Arjun Pandit (1976) also starred Ashok Kumar, Vinod Mehra, Bindu, Srividya (debut), Deven Verma, Mukri, Sushil Bhatnagar and Rajan Haksar in supporting roles. Sachin, Keshto Mukherjee and Shubha Khote made special appearances in the film.
Written by Balai Chand Mukhopadhyay and based on his novel Agnishwar, Arjun Pandit (1976) told the story of a philanthropic doctor called Dr. Shukla (Ashok Kumar) who works selflessly to bring reform to the village he is stationed at. He transforms the life of Arjun Sardar (Sanjeev Kumar), who is a fearsome enforcer employed by the local Zamindar. Dr. Shukla teaches Arjun Sardar to be more affectionate and loving towards his daughter and to take up education to find a purposeful life. Supported by Dr. Shukla, the dreaded Arjun Sardar learns how to read and write and transforms into an honest social reformer, Arjun Pandit. On the behest of Dr. Shukla, he starts a medical compounder (doctor’s assistant) course. When the doctor passes away, Arjun Pandit takes his place to serve his community.
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1976), this Arjun Pandit poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a leading Bollywood poster art studio in Bombay called Seth Studio.
A large illustrated side profile close up of lead actor Sanjeev Kumar is seen depicted in beautiful brush strokes, with red paint dripping in the background like blood. Smaller hand painted portraits of Vinod Mehra and Srividya are seen at the bottom. This vintage Bollywood poster is set against a minimal white background, making the artwork stand out in contrast.
Typography used in this Sanjeev Kumar poster is entirely in English, with the title illustrated in blue, accentuated with a black border.
The soundtrack album of Arjun Pandit (1976) was composed by the legendary S.D. Burman. It featured the memorable song, “Dil Mera Uda Jaye” sung by Kishore Kumar.
