Bold movie poster for sale: Begunaah Qaidi (1982).

Featured here is an actual surviving vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1982 Hindi film written and directed by V.K. Sobti that starred Rakesh Roshan in the titular role.

Produced by Mrs. Laxmi Sobti and presented under the S.F. Combine banner, Begunaah Qaidi (1982) also starred Arti Gupta, Shakti Kapoor, Asha Sachdev, Tamanna, Shashi Puri, Sujit Kumar, Goga Kapoor, Jalal Agha, Paintal, Om Shivpuri, Yunus Parvez, Sunder, Bhagwan, Birbal, Chand Usmani and C.S.Dubey in supporting roles.

Begunaah Qaidi (1982) told the story of an honest, salaried middle class man called Vijay (Rakesh Roshan) who is in love with a rich girl called Asha (Arti Gupta). Asha’s uncle Modi (Goga Kapoor) is a multi-millionaire black marketer and smuggler. When Vijay goes to meet Modi to ask for Asha’s hand in marriage, he is humiliated and accused of wanting to marry to usurp her wealth. A petty criminal called Abdul (Shakti Kapoor) who’s sister was raped by Modi lands up at the same time at his house seeking revenge. Abdul fatally stabs Modi and manages to flee before Vijay can catch him or get a glimpse of his face. Vijay’s testimony falls flat in court and he is declared guilty of murdering Modi after the latter refused consent to his marriage with Asha. Sentenced to life imprisonment, Vijay must prove his innocence and find the real killer who destroyed his life.

Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1982), this Begunaah Qaidi poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This old Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a leading Bollywood poster art studio in Bombay called Loombarts.

A large illustrated close up of actor Shakti Kapoor is seen in the background, locked up in prison behind bars. The portrait blends in with large brush strokes on the sides. A pleasing portrait of the lead couple Rakesh Roshan and Arti Gupta in a romantic pose is seen below.

Actress Tamanna is seen in a very risque portrait in this bold movie poster on the right. The artwork is inspired from a song in the film in which the actress is wearing drenched clothes on a beach. A close up still photograph of actress Asha Sachdev is seen pasted on the bottom left of this old Bollywood poster.

Typography used in this Begunaah Qaidi movie poster is primarily in English, with the title illustrated in blue in a stone typeface, accentuated with a black border. The title is translated to Devanagari Hindi as well at the bottom. This vintage Bollywood poster is set against a minimal white background on the sides, making the artwork stand out in contrast.

The soundtrack album of Begunaah Qaidi (1982) was composed by duo Sonik-Omi.
