Shammi Kapoor movie poster of the super hit Hindi film Brahmachari (1968) for sale.
Featured here for sale is an old hand drawn movie poster of the memorable 1968 Hindi film which featured the Elvis Presley of India, Shammi Kapoor in the lead role.
Printed and circulated a few years after the first release of the film (somewhere in the 1970s), this Shammi Kapoor poster was designed for publicity of a subsequent local release of the film in Delhi but never ended up being used.
Written by Sachin Bhowmick, produced by G. P. Sippy and directed by Bhappi Sonie, Brahmachari also starred Rajshree, Pran, Mumtaz, Junior Mehmood, Jagdeep, Sachin and Asit Sen in supporting roles. The film’s unforgettable music was composed by Bollywood’s greatest music composer duo, Shankar Jaikishan.
Brahmachari became a box office super hit upon it’s release and won several awards, including the Filmfare Best Movie Award. It was later remade in Tamil as Enga Mama (1970) and in Telugu as Devudu Mamayya (1981).
This old Bollywood poster features a quirky hand drawn design, which is typical of the old school movie poster design studios in Delhi. Shammi Kapoor and Rajshree are seen in an embrace, prominently at the center of this old Hindi movie poster. The title of the film appears in Devanagari Hindi font on the bottom. Quirky hand draw renditions of Mumtaz, Junior Mehmood and Pran are seen at the bottom of this artwork movie poster. Actor Pran’s face has been hand dawn with a lot of character, which is typical of the style used by old movie poster painters in Delhi to depict villainy.
This old Bollywood poster hand drawn by an art studio and printed in Delhi capitalizes on the massive success of the soundtrack of the film. The top left of the poster features lyrics of a smash hit song from the film sung by Mohammed Rafi and written by Hasrat Jaipuri, “Dil Ke Jharoke Mein Tujhko Bithakar; Yaadon Ko Teri Main Dulhan Banakar; Rakhunga Main Dil Ke Paas; Mat Ho Meri Jaan Udaas.”
Besides “Dil Ke Jharoke Mein,” other songs from Brahmachari such as “Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche” and “Chakke Men Chakka Chakke Pe Gaadi” went on to become a rage throughout the nation and are still played today.
