Featured here is an actual surviving vintage publicity poster of the 1977 Hindi film directed by Pramod Chakravorty that starred the Dream Girl of Indian cinema, Hema Malini in the pivotal role opposite superstar Dharmendra.
Produced by Gulshan Rai and presented by Sarathy International, Dream Girl (1977) also starred Ashok Kumar, Prem Chopra, Asrani, Lalita Pawar, Satyen Kappu, Dina Pathak, Pinchoo Kapoor, D.K. Sapru, Praveen Paul, Padmini Kolhapure, Pallavi Joshi, Raju Shrestha, Ramesh Deo and Seema Deo in supporting roles.
Dream Girl (1977) told the story of a young woman (played by Hema Malini) who dons five different identities to pull off various con jobs with rich men in order to meet the expenses of an orphanage. Things take a turn when she assumes the identity of a princess and meets the grandson of a millionaire called Mr. Anup Mehra (Dharmendra). The two fall in love and her secret is revealed.
Hema Malini earned the moniker of the “Dream Girl” of Bollywood during her debut in 1968, which eventually inspired the title of the film.
Printed and circulated subsequent to the first release of the film (somewhere in the 1980s), this vintage Bollywood poster was originally designed for publicity of the film for a local release run in Delhi but never ended up being used.
This hand drawn Bollywood poster features a stunning rendition of the Dream Girl of Bollywood, Hema Malini in a dancing pose. The poster is set against a light blue background. A large close up portrait of actor Dharmendra is seen in the background of this Dream Girl poster. The quirky manner in which the faces of the stars have been painted is typical of old vintage Bollywood posters in Delhi.
The soundtrack of Dream Girl (1977) was composed by music composer duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, while lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. The title song of the film, “Dream Girl” sung by Kishore Kumar is fondly remembered and played till today. One of the songs from the film, “Duniya Ke Log” sung by Asha Bhosle was shot at Disneyland, USA.
