Illustrated movie posters vintage for sale: Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye (1977).
Featured here is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the old 1977 Hindi drama co-written and directed by Lekh Tandon that starred Prem Krishen and debutante Rameshwari in lead roles.
Produced by Tarachand Barjatya and released under his prestigious Rajshri Productions banner, Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye (1977) also starred Madan Puri, Iftekhar, Shyamlee, Leela Mishra, Shashikala, Viju Khote, Piloo J. Wadia, Jagdeep, Savita Bajaj and Sunder in supporting roles.
Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye (1977) was a copy of the Hollywood film, It Started with Eve (1941). It was the second Bollywood remake on the same story, the first being Tamasha (1952).
The film told the story of carefree playboy Prem (Prem Krishen) who is the only heir of ailing billionaire Seth Harikrishan (Madan Puri). Harikrishan believes that if his grandson gets married to a homely, traditional and virtuous woman, it will turn him into a responsible human being who can then take over his business empire. However, Prem wants to marry a beautiful model called Rita (Shyamlee) whom he is having an affair with. On the advice of his physician (Iftekhar), Harikrishan reluctantly agrees to allow Prem to get married to a woman of his choice. Things take a turn when Harikrishan suffers a near fatal heart attack and wants to see Rita before he dies. Rita is on a modeling assignment in Srinagar and cannot fly back due to heavy snowfall. Under pressure, Prem hires an illiterate pavement flower vendor Kammo (Rameshwari) to pose as Rita in front of his grandfather who is on his death bed. However things take an interesting turn when Harikrishan recovers and insists Rita move in with them.
Printed and circulated during the release of the film in theaters (somewhere in the late 1970s), this old illustrated movie poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by one of the leading Bollywood poster artists in Bombay called Bhide Vishwanath (B. Vishwanath) and features striking artwork.
A pleasing close up portrait of actress Rameshwari is seen on the top. She is seen dressed in traditional attire, with the beauty in her gaze captured perfectly with the artist’s expert brushstrokes. The portrait is taken from the hit song, “Le Toh Aaye Ho Hame Sapno Ke Gaon Mein.” A smaller portrait of Prem Krishen playing the accordion while leaning on Shyamlee is seen on the bottom right of this illustrated movie poster vintage. The artwork is taken from the hit song, “Khushiyan Hi Khushiyan Ho Daman Mein Jiske.” A garden background is seen on the top, while the bottom is a minimal white.
Typography used in this Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye movie poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, with the title appearing in red accentuated with a black border.
The soundtrack album of Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye (1977) was composed and written by Ravindra Jain and featured the hit duet, “Khushiyan Hi Khushiyan Ho Daman Mein Jiske” sung by Yesudas and Hemlata. “Le Toh Aaye Ho Hame Sapno Ke Gaon Mein” sung by Hemlata was another popular track from the film. Ravindra Jain sang his first ever song in the film, “Acharaa Men Phulavaa Lai Ke.”
The box office success of Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye (1977) inspired the super hit Tamil movie Marumagal (1986) that starred Sivaji Ganesan.
