A dark satire on the common man’s frustration to seek justice from a legal system that is often misused by the rich and powerful, Jolly LLB (2013) also starred Amrita Rao, Manoj Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, Harsh Chhaya, Mohan Kapoor, Mohan Agashe, Ramesh Deo, Mukund Bhatt and Vijay Gupta in supporting roles.

At the 61st National Film Awards, Jolly LLB (2013) bagged Best Feature Film in Hindi and Best Supporting Actor for Saurabh Shukla who played the unforgettable role of the judge presiding over the trial. The film marked a major milestone in his film career and turned him into one of the most formidable supporting actors in Indian cinema, making this Jolly LLB movie poster, highly collectible!

Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 2013), this old Bollywood courtroom drama movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

Full figure still photos of the three key actors of the film, Boman Irani, Saurabh Shukla and Arshad Warsi are seen in this original Jolly LLB movie poster. The three characters are seen inside a courtroom, with lady justice appearing blindfolded at the top, holding balanced scales of justice.

Boman Irani, who plays the rich and powerful advocate “Rajpal,” is seen tempting a blindfolded Saurabh Shukla with dangling grapes, who appears seated in his character of “Justice Tripathi.” The judge is seen kicking the backside of Arshad Warsi who plays advocate Jagdish Tyagi aka “Jolly,” sending legal papers which he is holding flying all over the courtroom.

Arshad Warsi is seen with a comical exasperation on his face, while Boman Irani appears smiling confidently, holding on to the justice seat with a firm grip.

The tagline on the top of this original Jolly LLB movie poster features an interesting play on words: We Believe Injustice.” There is no space dividing the words “In” and “Justice” and the former appears in red, resulting in a double entendre. The film’s release date is mentioned at the bottom.

The soundtrack album of Jolly LLB (2013) was composed by Krsna and became very popular at the time of it’s release. Songs like “Daru Peeke Nachna” sung by Mika Singh, “Mere Toh Lag Gaye” sung by Bappi Lahiri and “Jhooth Boliya” sung by Kamal Khan are fondly remembered and played till today.

Jolly LLB (2013) was inspired by the sensational BMW drunk driving hit-and-run case of 1999 in which Sanjeev Nanda (the son of an arms dealer and grandson of Naval Chief) ran over 7 people, killing 6 of them. A landmark trial followed that lasted for nearly a decade, with the accused released after serving only two years in prison.

Owing to the massive success of the film, a sequel called Jolly LLB 2 was released in 2017, with Saurabh Shukla reprising his role as judge. The film was written and directed by Subhash Kapoor as well. A third installment called Jolly LLB 3 is planned by the filmmaker starring Saurabh Shukla again along with Akshay Kumar and Huma Qureshi.
