Printed and circulated during a subsequent screening of the Amitabh Bachchan old movie (somewhere in the 1980s/1990s), this Kaala Patthar poster was originally designed for publicity of a local re-release of the film but never ended up being used.
This Amitabh film poster was originally designed in hand drawn format on canvas. The original angry young man of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan is seen prominently in the center in a quirky hand drawn avatar. Sharughan Sinha and Shashi Kapoor are seen in smaller hand drawn avatars on the top of this Amitabh old movie poster. Actresses Raakhee Gulzar is seen on his right whereas villain Prem Chopra appears on the left.
Actresses Parveen Babi and Neetu Singh appear on the bottom left and right respectively of this Sharughan Sinha movie poster. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan is seen in his iconic screaming avatar, covered in coal at the bottom center of this Kaala Patthar poster. To promote the film among audiences desiring to see an action thriller, guns have been placed in the hands of most of the actors appearing in this hand drawn Bollywood poster. In reality, none of the film’s scenes feature the use of guns, making this Amitabh Bachchan poster very far fetched and completely over the top.
The title of this Amitabh old movie poster appears at the bottom in Devanagari Hindi font in a stunning mix of red and yellow with a cracked stonewall like appearance. This Amitabh Bachchan poster was originally designed in hand painted format by Bollywood poster painter, artist Amar. His signature is seen on the bottom right border of this Kaala Patthar poster.
Kaala Patthar (Black Stone) is a 1979 Hindi action film produced and directed by Yash Chopra. The story was written by Salim-Javed and it highlights the plight of workers in coal mines run by ruthlessly selfish owners. This film was the fourth collaboration between Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and director Yash Chopra after the hugely successful Deewaar (1975), Kabhie Kabhie (1976) and Trishul (1978).
In spite of doing average business at the box office, the film was critically acclaimed and received several Filmfare Award nominations. Kaala Patthar has attained cult status over the years and is considered a classic in Hindi cinema.
