Sampoorna Teertha Yatra (1983) was Bhojpuri film industry’s first religious i.e. devotional film, making this vintage movie poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1983), this vintage Sampoorna Teertha Yatra poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bhojpuri movie poster was originally hand painted on canvas by a movie poster art studio in Bombay. The printed signature of Bollywood poster painter Manohar Suresh is seen on the top right of the poster.
A striking illustration of Lord Shiva is seen at the center, with blessings radiating out from his raised hand. Images of various gods are seen on the sides – Lord Ram, Lord Ganesh & Goddess Sati on the left and Lord Vishnu, Lord Hanuman & Goddess Lakshmi on the right.
Actor Sujit Kumar and actress Madhu Malini are seen below in close up hand drawn portraits. Swarg Lok or heaven is depicted above with the apsaras (angels) and divine sage Narad Muni. A large Om symbol appears at the top center in red.
The background is split into two parts, with earth below appearing sky blue and heaven above in cloudy white. Typography used in this old Bhojpuri movie poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, with the title appearing in red against a yellow background. An announcement at the center reads, “First Bhojpuri devotional journey film.”
The name of the theater displaying the poster along with the film’s release date is seen scribbled with a marker pen at the bottom of the poster above the title (At Deepak Theaters from 28th Date).
The soundtrack album of Sampoorna Teertha Yatra (1983) was composed by S.N. Tripathi, while lyrics were written by Rajpati.
