Featured here is an original vintage Bollywood poster of the old pre-independence era black and white Hindi film, Shama (1946) that was produced by Sohrab Modi and starred his wife Mehtab Modi in the lead role.

Directed by Sibtain Fazli, the film was released under the Minerva Movietone banner. Wasti, Abu Bucker, H. Prakash, Anwari, Jafferi Begum, Chanda Bai, Saadat Ali, Ameer Banu, Chanda Bai and Master Rattan played supporting roles in the film.

Printed and circulated during the screening of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1970s), this old original movie poster was made for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This vintage Shama movie poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format. A full length hand drawn portrait of actress Mehtab Modi with her hands lifted in prayer is seen in this old original movie poster.

Typography used in this old Bollywood poster is in English, with the title translated both in Devanagari Hindi as well as in Urdu. The English title appears in a stunning dual tone font at the top. The poster features a catchy blue background. A candle is seen painted at the center, with the warmth of its glow enveloping the entire poster.

The soundtrack album of Shama was composed by Ghulam Haider. One of the songs from the film, “Dil Thandi Hawa Mein” sung by Shamshad Begum, became very popular at the time of the film’s release.
