Photo collage movie poster for sale: Singhasan (1986).

This is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the 1986 Hindi film written, edited, produced and directed by Krishna that starred Jeetendra in a double role opposite Jaya Prada, Mandakini and Radha.

Released under Krishna’s Padmalaya Studios banner, Singhasan (1986) featured an ensemble supporting star cast comprising Waheeda Rehman, Pran, Kader Khan, Shreeram Lagoo, Bharat Bhushan, Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Amjad Khan, Sujit Kumar, Praveen Kumar and Gurbachan Singh.

Singhasan (1986) was shot simultaneously along with it’s Telugu counterpart, Simhasanam (1986). South Indian actress Radha made her final Hindi film appearance in Singhasan (1986).

Singhasan (1986) was a historical drama that told the story of two kingdoms (Avanti and Gandhar). The brave military commander of Gandhar, Vikram Singh (Jeetendra) brings into submission all independent kings surrounding the kingdom, pleasing his king Maharaja Bhupati (Bharat Bhushan). The king’s only child, queen Alakananda (Jaya Prada) is the successor to his royal throne. Vikram Singh and queen Alakananda are in love with each other. However, sinister forces within the king’s cabinet do not want a woman to rule over them. Vikram Singh is framed with the attempted murder of the queen and expelled from the kingdom. However, he continues to fight against the enemies of the kingdom by forming his parallel army on the outskirts of Gandhar. The prince of Avanti, Aditya Vardhan (Jeetendra) is a doppelganger of Vikram Singh. He is the heir to the royal throne but forces within his ministerial cabinet are determined to eliminate him. Now Vikram Singh must battle corrupt forces to ensure his lookalike becomes the king of Avanti and also fulfill his desire of marrying the queen of Gandhar whom he dearly loves.

Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1986), this vintage photo collage movie poster was designed for publicity but never ended up being used.

This Singhasan poster was originally designed using photographic collage techniques by one of the greatest south Indian film poster designers, Eswar. His printed signature is seen on the bottom right of the poster.

Actor Jeetendra is seen in two different avatars in separate black and white photographic stills, giving away the double role plot of the film. He is seen as military commander wearing full battle armor in a large still on the right and again in a romantic pose with actress Mandakini at the center. Actress Jaya Prada is seen seated on a royal throne in a black and white still photo on the left. Actress Radha is seen in a close up on the bottom right of this photo collage movie poster.

A stunning picture of a royal kingdom is seen in blue tint in the top half of the background, while the bottom half is left minimal white.

Typography used in this original Bollywood poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi and the title appears in stunning slanted typeface in yellow and orange, encased in black. An intricate drawing of a royal kingdom with a large throne at the center and an army on the sides is seen sketched below the title, giving away the historical plot of the film.

The soundtrack album of Singhasan (1986) was composed by Bappi Lahiri. It featured the superhit duet, “Tere Liye Maine Janam Liya” sung by Kishore Kumar and P. Susheela.
