Original Bollywood posters for sale: Sone Ki Chidiya (1958).
Featured here is an actual surviving vintage Bollywood poster of the 1958 Hindi film directed by Shaheed Lateef and written & produced by his wife Ismat Chughtai that starred Nutan, Balraj Sahni and Talat Mahmood in key roles.
Released under the Filmindia Corporation banner, Sone Ki Chidiya (1958) also starred Dhumal, Mumtaz (debut), Dev Anand, Ashok Kumar, Bikram Kapoor, Pratima Devi, Jagdish Kamal, Sarita Devi, Bishan Khanna and Zebunnisa in supporting roles. The film marked the debut of actress Mumtaz as a child artist.
Sone Ki Chidiya (1958) told the heartfelt story of a poor woman mistreated by her stepfamily, who accidentally becomes a successful Bollywood actress.
Printed and circulated during the theatrical release run of the film (somewhere in the late 1950s / early 1960s), this original Bollywood poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Sone Ki Chidiya poster was originally designed using a combination of two different design techniques, i.e. hand painted oil on canvas design as well as photographic collage. Artist Sirish from Naresh & Co Nagpur studio is credited for the design on the bottom left of the poster.
A stunning black and white still photograph of actress Nutan is seen prominently on the poster as though it appears on a billboard. She is seen in her character of a Bollywood actress. Set against a striking yellow background, the poster creates an immediate visual impact owing largely to its minimalist design and red typography.
The soundtrack album of Sone Ki Chidiya (1958) was composed by ace music composer O.P. Nayyar. It featured the timeless classic, “Raat Bhar Ka Hai Mehman Andhera” sung by Mohammed Rafi.
