Old time movie posters for sale: Bazar (1949).

This is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1949 classic black and white Hindi film directed by K. Amarnath and produced by M.R. Navalkar that starred Shyam, Nigar Sultana, Yakub, Gope, Mangla, Cuckoo, Misra, Amir Banu and Yakub in key roles.

The film was released under the Madhukar Pictures banner and distributed by Mudnaney Film Service.

Printed and circulated during a subsequent theatrical release run of the film (somewhere in the 1960s), this classic old time movie poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This vintage Bazar poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a Bollywood poster design studio in Bombay. The signature of Bollywood poster artist J.V. Nachankar is seen on the center right.

The “Errol Flynn of India,” Shyam is seen in a quirky illustration on the left. A stunning large hand painted portrait of actress Nigar Sultana singing the memorable song “Zara Sun Lo Hum Apne Pyar Ka Afsana Kehte Hain, Humen Yeh Duniya Wale Aap Ka Diwana Kehte Hain,” appears at the center of this old time movie poster.

Red waves are seen on the top half of the poster, while the bottom remains a minimal and simplistic white. The English title is seen in a striking 3D font on the top in white against contrasting black, while the Hindi title at the bottom is seen in blue with a yellow border.

Typography used in this old time movie poster is primarily in English, with a translation of the title seen at the bottom in Devanagari Hindi.

The soundtrack album of Bazar (1949) was composed by Shyam Sunder, Husnalal and Bhagatram. Songs from the film, particularly “Humen Yeh Duniya Wale Aap Ka Diwana Kehte Hain” and “Saajan Ki Galiyan Chhod Chale” sung by Lata Mangeshkar are fondly remembered till today.
