Featured here for sale is an original vintage Bengali cinema poster of the old black and white parallel cinema drama directed and co-written by Nitish Mukhopadhyay that starred Joysree Ray, Soumen Bhattacharya (Subhrendra Bhattacharjee) and Pratap Mukherjee in key roles.
Produced by Chitrabhas, Ek Din Surya (1974) also starred Nandan Mukhopadhyay, Chaiti Chattopadhyay and Labanya Bhadhuri in supporting roles.
A social drama, Ek Din Surya (1974) told the story of an idealistic middle class man played by Soumen Bhattacharya who battles corruption and unemployment. The film’s title translates to “One Day the Sun,” which is a metaphorical expression of hope that one day the common man will overcome his struggles and the sun will rise. Jayashree Roy played his love interest in the film, standing by him in his difficult journey of economic struggles.
Printed and circulated during the release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1970s), this old Bengali cinema poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Ek Din Surya poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a poster design studio in Kolkata. The unique modern Indian art design of this old Bengali movie poster makes it truly one-of-a-kind and highly collectible.
The central character of the film, i.e. the disillusioned common man is depicted in almost surrealistic style.
Typography used in this vintage film poster is entirely in Bengali, with the title drawn in very stylized font that matches the stunning artwork.
The soundtrack album of Ek Din Surya (1974) was composed by Nitish Mukhopadhyay, while the background score was sung by Ustad Amir Khan.
