The 36th Chamber of Shaolin poster for sale.
Featured here is a rare original kung fu movie poster of the cult action film produced by Shaw Brothers and directed by Lau Kar-leung that starred Gordon Liu in the lead role.
The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is considered to be one of the greatest kung fu films ever made, making this vintage kung fu poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated in India during the local release run of the film (somewhere in the late 1970s / early 1980s), this 36th Chamber of Shaolin poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old kung fu movie poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a poster design studio in Bombay. A stunning hand drawn illustration of Gordon Liu in his character of Shaolin monk “San Te” is seen on the top. He appears again in various kung fu poses, including holding a bamboo scaffolding and stick fighting in semi-abstract illustrations below.
Hand drawn portraits of Lee Hoi-sang who plays Abbot as well as Lo Lieh who plays General Tien Ta are also seen in this original 36th Chamber of Shaolin poster.
An announcement at the top reads, “More Dynamic More Daring Than Any Dragon.” A beautiful black border is seen encasing the poster. Shades of yellow and green are seen in the background on the top, while the bottom has a minimal white shade.
The Hong Kong kung fu film’s massive success led to two subsequent installments: Return to the 36th Chamber (1980) and Disciples of the 36th Chamber (1985).
