An Evening In Paris
An Evening in Paris poster for sale.
This is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1967 Hindi film that featured actress Sharmila Tagore in the lead role opposite the “Elvis Presley of India,” Shammi Kapoor.
Produced and directed by Shakti Samanta, An Evening in Paris (1967) also starred Pran, K. N. Singh, M. B. Shetty (Muddu Babu Shetty), Rajendranath and Jacques Charrier in supporting roles.
The film was a romantic thriller, based on the story of a young rich woman “Deepa” (played by Sharmila Tagore), who goes to France to find her true love.
Printed and circulated during the screening of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1970s), this Evening in Paris poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
An Evening in Paris was the first Bollywood film to feature a mainstream actress in a bikini, breaking taboos for an Indian woman in the 1960s, making this rare Bollywood poster, highly collectible!
This old Bollywood poster was originally hand painted on canvas by a poster design studio in Mumbai. It features a stunning full length hand drawn portrait of actress Sharmila Tagore wearing a bikini. She is seen water skiing with the Eiffel Tower visible in the background. Another hand painted portrait of Shammi Kapoor passionately embracing Sharmila Tagore is seen on the bottom right of this Evening in Paris poster.
The poster is set against a picturesque clear sky background. The title of the film appears in a striking multicolor font on the top right in English. The Hindi title, i.e. “Paris Ki Ek Shaam” is seen in blue on the top left of this old Bollywood poster. A Moulin Rouge styled cabaret dancing scene is shown at the bottom in abstract, using stick figures.
The soundtrack album of An Evening in Paris was composed by the hit duo Shankar-Jaikishan, while lyrics were written by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. The songs were chart toppers at the time of the film’s release and continue to be played till today.
“Akele Akele Kahan Ja Rahe Ho,” “Aasman Se Aaya Farishta” and the title song “An Evening in Paris (Aji Aisa Mauka Phir Kahan Milega?”) all sung by Mohammed Rafi remain all time classics.
