SRK poster for sale! Featured here is a rare original poster of the Hindi film Aśoka (2001) that featured the “Baadshah of Bollywood,” Shahrukh Khan.
This is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the historical epic that starred “King Khan” superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role opposite actress Kareena Kapoor. Written and directed by Santosh Sivan, Aśoka also starred Tamil actor Ajith Kumar, Hrishita Bhatt, and Danny Denzongpa in supporting roles.
The film was originally titled, “Ashoka The Great” and later shortened to simply “Aśoka.”
Printed and circulated during the debut release of the film (somewhere in 2001), this SRK poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Asoka movie poster features superstar Shahrukh Khan and actress Kareena Kapoor in a passionate pose. SRK is seen shirtless holding Kareena’s waist. An entire army is seen in the background of this Kareena Kapoor poster, giving away the premise of the film. The title appears prominently in white in Devanagari Hindi at the bottom of this original Bollywood poster.
The soundtrack of Aśoka was composed by Anu Malik and was very successful. One of the songs from the film, “San Sanana” sung by Alka Yagnik is fondly remembered and played till today.
Aśoka was based of the life of emperor Asoka of the Maurya dynasty, who ruled most of South Asia in third century BCE. The film was widely screened across the United Kingdom and North America, and was also selected for screening at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.
