Uttam Kumar movie poster for sale: Bakul (1954).
Featured here is an actual surviving old Bengali movie poster of the 1954 drama directed by Bholanath Mitra that starred the most popular and successful film star of Bengal, Uttam Kumar in the lead role opposite actress and filmmaker Arundhati Devi.
Released under the prestigious banner of New Theatres Calcutta, Bakul (1954) also starred Sobha Sen, Bibhu Bhattacharya and comedian Tulsi Chakraborty in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1950s), this old Bengali movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Bakul poster was originally hand painted on canvas by a poster design studio in Kolkata and features striking artwork. Large hand drawn close ups of Uttam Kumar and Arundhati Devi are seen in statue-like illustrations on the top. The actress is seen again at the bottom along with master Bibhu. All four portraits are done in monochrome, giving a pencil art feel to this old Bengali movie poster.
A minimal light blue background us used in this old Bengali movie poster, which makes the monochrome portraits stand out in stark contrast. Typography used in this old Uttam Kumar movie poster is entirely in Bengali, with the text encased inside a red box on the bottom right. The title and credits written in white as well as black contrast against the red background.
The soundtrack album of Bakul (1954) was composed by Pranav Dey.
