This is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the 1989 art Hindi film directed by award winning filmmaker Mrinal Sen that starred Shriram Lagoo, Shabana Azmi, Uttara Baokar, Anil Chatterjee, Aparna Sen and Roopa Ganguly in key roles.
Based on a Bengali novel “Beej” written by Ramapada Chowdhury, Ek Din Achanak tells the story of a professor (played by Shreeram Lagoo) who leaves his home on a rainy evening never to return again, keeping his family guessing.
The film was a critical success much like Mrinal Sen’s other films, making this original Ek Din Achanak poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated during a film festival release (somewhere in the early 2000s), this Mrinal Sen poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This original Bollywood poster features a dark still photo of the protagonist, Shreeram Lagoo in his character of a professor brooding over his desk, under the faint glow of a table lamp in a room engulfed in darkness. A black and white photo of an arm chair is seen below, with a tea cup placed over one of the arm rests, signifying his absence.
The Hindi title of the film is translated into English, Italian and French at the bottom of this Mrinal Sen poster for sale. Uttara Baokar won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1989 for her stellar performance in the film. At the Venice Film Festival in 1989, Mrinal Sen won an honorable mention at the OCIC Award for Ek Din Achanak.
