Fariyad poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original Bengali cinema poster of the 1971 black and white Bangla drama directed by Bijoy Bose that starred the biggest stars of Bengali cinema, Suchitra Sen and Utpal Dutt in key roles.
Produced by Pama Pictures, Fariyad (1971) also starred Chandrabati Devi, Mom Mukhopadhyay, Partha Mukhopadhyay, Bikash Roy, Ananda Mukhopadhyay, Bankim Ghosh, Mrityunjoy Mukhopadhyay, Subrata Sen and Moni Srimani in supporting roles.
Written by Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay, Fariyad (1971) told the story of a beautiful bar singer (played by Suchitra Sen) who is blackmailed and exploited by a wealthy, powerful man (played by Utpal Dutt).
Printed and circulated during the release run of the film in Kolkata theaters (somewhere in the early 1970s), this Fariyad poster was created for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bengali cinema poster was originally designed in mixed media format using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas as well as photographic collage techniques by a poster design studio in Kolkata and features striking artwork.
Superstar Suchitra Sen is seen in a stunning full length photo at the center in black and white, with her dress in color (gold). A large photographic close up of her face appears in color on the right, while actor Utpal Dutt is depicted on the left in a black and white still.
Typography used in this old movie poster is entirely in Bengali, with the title appearing in a very creatively styled font in yellow accentuated with a black border. The background of the poster is deep red, which makes the artwork in the foreground stand out in stark contrast.
The soundtrack album of Fariyad (1971) was composed by Nachiketa Ghosh with songs sung by legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle.
