Laxmi poster for sale.
Featured here is an original vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1976 mythological Hindi drama Jai Mahalaxmi Maa directed by Vijay Sharma that starred Asis Kumar, Kanan Kaushal and Anita Guha in key roles.
Produced by Kanti Kanakia and S. Roshan and released under the Pearl Pictures banner, Jai Mahalaxmi Maa (1976) also starred B.M. Vyas, Chand Usmani, Mahipal and Jagdeep in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the debut release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1976), this Jai Mahalaxmi Maa poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Indian mythology poster was originally designed in mixed media format using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas techniques as well as photographic collage format by popular Bollywood movie poster artist G.R. Kareker from Bombay based Expert Eyes art studio. His signature is seen on the bottom right of this vintage Bollywood poster.
The foreground shows an over painted still photograph of Kanan Kaushal bowing down and praying with folded hands before an idol of goddess Mahalaxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. A divine halo is seen around goddess Mahalaxmi’s crown, who is depicted with four hands, representing the four goals of human life: dharma (righteousness), artha (wealth), kama (desires), and moksha (liberation).
The artwork is set against a minimal blue background, which makes it stand out in contrast.
Typography used in this vintage Laxmi poster is primarily in English, with the title translated to Devanagari Hindi as well. Painted in a striking yellow font, the word “Mahalaxmi” is intentionally made bigger in size compared to the other two words, exalting the name of the goddess.
The soundtrack album of Jai Mahalaxmi Maa (1976) was composed by Chitragupta. It featured the memorable devotional track, “Jai Ho Maha Lakshmi” sung by Usha Mangeshkar.
