Jai Mahalaxmi Maa poster for sale.
Featured here is a vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1976 mythological Hindi drama directed by Vijay Sharma that starred Asis Kumar, Kanan Kaushal and Anita Guha in key roles.
Produced by Kanti Kanakia and S. Roshan and released under the Pearl Pictures banner, Jai Mahalaxmi Maa (1976) also starred B.M. Vyas, Chand Usmani, Mahipal and Jagdeep in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1976), this Jai Mahalaxmi Maa poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by popular Bollywood movie poster artist/painter G.R. Kareker from Expert Eyes art studio. His signature is seen on the bottom right of this vintage mythological poster.
The foreground shows a striking illustration of the lead couple Asis Kumar and Kanan Kaushal, who have their unwavering faith in Goddess Mahalaxmi tested with trials and tribulations. Noted Bollywood poster painter G.R. Kareker captures likeness and detail in both portraits with high accuracy.
Goddess Mahalaxmi is seen with Lord Vishnu in heaven (essayed by Anita Guha & Mahipal respectively) in an over painted photograph on the top of this Jai Mahalaxmi Maa poster. Broad brush strokes are seen in the blue sky background, which splits into a minimal white layer at the bottom.
Typography used in this vintage mythology movie poster is almost entirely in English, with only the title appearing in Devanagari Hindi. Painted in a striking red font, the word “Mahalaxmi” is intentionally made bigger in size compared to the other two words, exalting the name of the goddess.
The soundtrack album of Jai Mahalaxmi Maa (1976) was composed by Chitragupta. It featured the memorable devotional track, “Jai Ho Maha Lakshmi” sung by Usha Mangeshkar.
