Bollywood movie painting posters for sale: Ladies Tailor (1981).
Featured here is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the old 1981 Hindi film produced and directed by Khalid Akhtar that starred Sanjeev Kumar in the titular role of Ladies Tailor in a memorable dual role opposite Reena Roy (also in a double role).
Presented by Kulwant Singh Koli and Khalid Akhtar under the Yashodhan Films banner, Ladies Tailor (1981) also starred Pran, Amjad Khan, Deven Verma, Aruna Irani, Mukri, Raj Kishore, Mukhtar Ahmed, Dinesh Hingoo and Jagdish Raj in supporting roles. Bindu, Manju Singh and Urmila Bhatt made special appearances in the film.
The plot of Ladies Tailor (1981) was loosely inspired from the cult Bollywood comedy, Gol Maal (1979). Sanjeev Kumar played the role of a highly sought after ladies tailor called Mehboob, who is employed by a premier costume design firm that caters to the Indian film industry. The job gives him access to Bollywood’s leading actresses and a chance to design for them. Upon his family’s insistence, Mehboob decides to give up the stressful city life in Bombay and move back to his hometown Lucknow where he starts a tailoring shop along with his friend Salim (Pran). However, the shop fails to take off as conservative Muslims in his city see the young tailor and his Bollywood past as a threat for their women. To turn his fortunes around, Mehboob dons a beard and picks up a cane, pretending to be his own elder brother. His conservative Muslim customers have no problem getting their daughters and wives measured by the much older and sober looking Mehboob, while also being rest assured that his age has prevented him from being carried away by the ways of the film industry. The idea works and Mehboob begins to play his elder brother in order to continue winning the faith of his customers. On his train journey back from Mumbai, Mehboob meets Nikhat (Reena Roy). The two later meet again at Nikhat’s palace in Lucknow and fall in love. Things get complicated when Nikhat’s elder twin sister Aamra (also played by Reena Roy) begins to fall in love with Mehboob’s imaginary elder brother, not realizing that he is actually a younger man wearing a fake beard.
Printed and circulated during the initial release run of the film (somewhere in the early 1980s), this Ladies Tailor poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bollywood movie painting poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a Bombay-based poster art studio.
This vintage comedy drama poster features striking artwork. Lead actor Sanjeev Kumar is seen in prominently holding a measuring tape against a blue garment in his character of a ladies tailor. The artist uses a bright yellow shade to illustrate the portrait, which stands out against a black background as pure pop art.
Typography used in this Bollywood movie painting poster is entirely in English. The title appears illustrated in pink in a large typeface that dominates half the size of this Ladies Tailor movie poster.
The soundtrack album of Ladies Tailor (1981) was composed by noted duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal, while lyrics were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. It featured the popular duet, “Do Chahne Walon Ki Mulaqat Hai Wallah” sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi.
