Meera

Original hand painted Bollywood poster of the critically acclaimed Hindi film Meera (1979) for sale.

This is an actual surviving hand painted Bollywood poster of the 1979 Hindi film that featured the “Dream girl of Bollywood” Hema Malini in the lead role.

Written and directed by Gulzar, this historical film was based on the life of Meera, a Hindu poet who renounced princely comforts in pursuit of her devotion for Lord Krishna.

Printed and circulated during the original first release of the film (somewhere in the late 1970s), this hand painted Bollywood poster was printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This hand drawn movie poster was originally designed on a hand painted canvas by the best portrait artist in India, SM Pandit. The poster bears the printed signature of SM Pandit in the name of his art studio, i.e. “Studio SM Pandit” on the bottom left hand corner.

In this superbly hand painted Bollywood poster, SM Pandit’s flair for realism is strikingly apparent. Dreamgirl Hema Malini is seen in a stunningly realistic portrait holding a garland. Actor Vinod Khanna is seen in a beautiful portrait alongside.

Pandit Ravi Shankar, who composed the film’s award winning soundtrack is credited at the bottom of this hand drawn Bollywood poster.
