Featured here is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the 1982 Hindi drama directed by Dasari Narayana Rao that starred Jeetendra, Rekha and Anita Raj in key roles.

Produced by Veer Jain & Pradeep Sharma and released under the Tutu Veer Films banner, Mehandi Rang Layegi (1982) also featured Urvasi Sarada, Kader Khan, Asrani, Aruna Irani and Sarla Yeolekar in supporting roles.

Printed and circulated during the first release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1982), this Mehandi Rang Layegi poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This vintage Rekha movie poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by the highest paid movie poster artist of all time in Indian cinema, Diwakar Karkare of Studio Diwakar Bombay fame.

A stunningly realistic full length portrait of actor Jeetendra is seen at the center of this old Bollywood poster. Beautiful hand painted close up illustrations of the two lead actresses, Rekha and Anita Raj are seen in the background on the right and left respectively. The two women appear on either side of the poster, with actor Jeetendra at the center, giving away the love triangle premise of the film.

All three portraits display master Bollywood poster artist Diwakar Karkare’s command over portraiture. The artist does full justice to actress Rekha’s grace and beauty, bringing alive the depth in her eyes.

The artwork is set inside an orange photo frame. A romantic scene of a setting sun on a beachfront, with Jeetendra and Rekha dancing in the foreground is seen illustrated at the bottom. The couple is seen hand drawn as stick figures in a very small size. The artwork has been illustrated from the romantic song, “Aankh Milti Hai To Dil.”

The background on the top of this old Bollywood poster is a minimal white, with a few hand drawn flowers. Typography used in this vintage Rekha movie poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi. The title of the poster is seen in a striking 3D font in blue encased in black at the top.

The soundtrack album of Mehandi Rang Layegi (1982) was composed by the hit duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal. The title track, “Mehandi To Mehandi Hai Rang Layegi” sung by Lata Mangeshkar became very popular at the time of the film’s release. “Aankh Milti Hai To Dil” a duet sung by Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle was another hit track from the film.
