Mehndi poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving old Bollywood poster of the 1998 Hindi drama directed by Hamid Ali Khan that starred Rani Mukerji in the lead role opposite Faraaz Khan.
Produced by Salim and presented by H.M. Ishaque Masuda under the Aftab Pictures banner, Mehndi (1998) also starred Shakti Kapoor, Pramod Moutho, Arjun (Firoz Khan), Himani Shivpuri, Asrani, Yunus Parvez, Gulshan Grover, Raza Murad, Mahavir Shah, Shahbaz Khan and Mary Gul Khan in supporting roles.
Written by Iqbal Durrani, Mehndi (1998) was described as a tribute to Indian women in the film’s opening credits. It told the story of the travails of a newly married woman and the ill treatment she suffers at her husband’s home, seeking revenge after her divorce.
Actor Arjun (Firoz Khan) played a character in the film that was similar to his memorable role as Brihannala in the cult TV series, Mahabharat (1988).
Mehndi (1998) is considered one of the first lead roles that Rani Mukerji bagged in her film career, making this old Bollywood poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in the late 1990s), this Rani Mukerji poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Mehndi poster was originally designed in photographic collage format by cutting out stills using a blade and pasting them on a board.
A large photo of actress Rani Mukerji’s hennaed hands is seen dominating this old Bollywood poster. The actress appears in a smaller still photo below, wearing a dupatta over her head. The background is minimal, using a gradient of purple that fades into white below.
Typography in this old Bollywood poster is a mix of both English and Devanagari Hindi. The title appears in green, i.e. in the color of henna.
The soundtrack album of Mehndi (1998) was composed by Babul Bose, while lyrics were written by Rani Malik. It featured memorable songs such as “Tum To Pardesi Ho” sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy and “Baba Ki Bitiya” sung by Anuradha Paudwal.
