Film posters India: Mera Vachan Geeta Ki Qasam (1974).
Featured here is an actual surviving vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1974 Hindi action drama written, co-produced and directed by Vinod Kumar that starred Saira Banu and Sanjay Khan in lead roles.
Co-produced by A. Nairang and released under the banner of M.M.R. Films, Mera Vachan Geeta Ki Qasam (1974) also starred Ajit, Johnny Walker, Om Prakash, Nazima, K.N. Singh, Ram Mohan, S.N. Tripathi, Tun Tun and Qaim Raaj (debut) in supporting roles. Madan Puri, Laxmi Chhaya and Janki Das made guest appearances in this action packed Bollywood film.
Mera Vachan Geeta Ki Qasam (1974) told the dramatic story of a dreaded Hindu bandit called Daku Hari Singh (played by Sanjay Khan) who mistakenly ends up killing an innocent Muslim courtesan. Filled with remorse, he adopts her orphaned daughter Sultana (played by Nazima) and changes his name to Rahim Khan, giving up banditry to lead an honest life. He vows to raise the adopted girl into adulthood and get her married into a reputable family. Saira Banu played the memorable role of dancer Champa who is Sanjay Khan’s love interest in the film.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release of the film (somewhere in the late 1970s), this vintage Bollywood poster was designed for publicity of the film in north Indian theaters but never ended up being used.
This old Mera Vachan Geeta Ki Qasam poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by an art studio in Delhi and features stunning illustrated artwork. The printed signature of Bollywood poster painter Shyam is seen on the bottom right.
Sanjay Khan is seen in a striking hand drawn portrait on the right, depicted in his character of a bandit. He appears pointing a double barrelled rifle on the neck of villain Ajit, who is illustrated on the left. Actress Saira Banu is seen twirling around in a dancing pose taken from a song in the film, “Acha Lagta Hai Ye Bhola Bhala Sanwariya.”
The background used in this old film posters from India is fiery red on the top with streaks of black and yellow, giving away the action genre of the film. Typography used in this vintage Mera Vachan Geeta Ki Qasam poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, except for a translation of the title in English on the top. The film’s large Devanagari Hindi title appears in a 3D curved typeface with shades of yellow and orange depicted as burning flames inside, standing out against the black background.
The soundtrack album of Mera Vachan Geeta Ki Qasam (1974) was composed by duo Shankar-Jaikishan, while lyrics were written by Hasrat Jaipuri. It featured the hit song, “Acha Lagta Hai Ye Bhola Bhala Sanwariya” sung by Asha Bhosle.
