Venkatesh movie posters for sale: Rampur Ka Raja (1993).
Featured here is an actual surviving old Bollywood poster of the blockbuster Hindi film co-written and directed by B. Gopal that starred Daggubati Venkatesh, also known as “Victory Venkatesh” in the titular role opposite actress Divya Bharti.
Produced by Daggubati Venkatesh’s brother, Daggubati Suresh Babu (D. Suresh Babu) under his Suresh Productions banner, Rampur Ka Raja (1993) also starred Kota Srinivasa Rao, Vanisri, Rajya Lakshmi, Gummadi, Satyanarayana, Brahmanandam, Sumitra, Sivaji Raja, Vidya Sagar, Babu Mohan, Pradeep Shakthi and Jaya Prakash Reddy in supporting roles.
A romantic action drama, the film was originally released in Telugu as Bobbili Raja (1990) and later dubbed in Hindi and released as Rampur Ka Raja (1993). Presented by D. Ramanaidu, the film told the story of Rani, the rich spoiled daughter of a Forest Minister (played by actress Divya Bharti) and a brave forest guide called Raja (played by Venkatesh). The two get lost together in the forest and what follows is an adventure that blossoms into love.
Bobbili Raja (1990) was Venkatesh’s first silver jubilee hit and Divya Bharti’s first Telugu film and first lead role (only 16 years old at the time), making this old movie poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release of the film (somewhere in the mid 1990s), this old Bollywood poster was designed for publicity of the film in north Indian theaters but never ended up being used.
This old Venkatesh movie poster was originally designed using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas techniques as well as photographic collage by an art studio in Delhi and features stunning illustrated artwork. The printed signature of the Bollywood poster painter is seen on the top right of this dubbed Telugu cinema poster.
Daggubati Venkatesh is seen in a striking hand drawn close up portrait, screaming. His entire face has been illustrated in burning flames, making this Rampur Ka Raja poster, emotionally charged. Blood is seen on his forehead, suggesting the action plot of the film.
Actress Divya Bharti is seen playfully dancing alongside, wearing Venkatesh’s jacket with a belt and nothing underneath. Venkatesh is seen again in a smaller photographic still taken from a fight scene on the right of this Divya Bharti poster.
The background used in this old Venkatesh movie poster is divided into fiery red and sky blue. Several retro polka dots are seen around actress Divya Bharti’s portrait. Typography used in this vintage Bobbili Raja poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, with the film’s title appearing in a 3D font in a mix of sky blue, orange, yellow and red.
The film capitalizes on the success of Venkatesh’s earlier Bollywood blockbuster Anari (1993) by writing the words “Anari Fame” under his name. The words “Memorable Film” have been canceled out on the top.
The soundtrack album of Rampur Ka Raja (1993) was composed by music maestro Ilaiyaraaja, winning him the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director.
