Featured here is an original vintage Bollywood poster of the blockbuster 1982 Hindi film produced, directed and edited by the showman of Indian cinema, Raj Kapoor, under the prestigious RK Films’ banner.
Prem Rog (1982) explored complex subjects of widow remarriage and the class system, challenging prevalent social norms at the time.
This cult Bollywood romance featured Rishi Kapoor and Padmini Kolhapure in lead roles. Shammi Kapoor, Nanda, Tanuja, Vijayendra Ghatge, Sushma Seth, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Rajendra Nath, Raza Murad, Om Prakash and Bindu played supporting roles in Prem Rog (1982).
Printed and circulated during the film’s first release in theaters (somewhere in 1982), this Prem Rog poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
The film was a massive critical and commercial success. It won Best Director (Raj Kapoor) and Best Actress (Padmini Kolhapure) at the 30th Filmfare Awards, making this Raj Kapoor movie poster, highly collectible!
This vintage Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by the highest paid movie poster artist of all time in Indian cinema, Diwakar Karkare of Studio Diwakar Bombay fame. His printed signature is seen on the bottom left of this Prem Rog poster.
A stunning close up portrait of actress Padmini Kolhapure is seen on the top. A waist length illustration of actor Rishi Kapoor smiling and dancing to the song, “Main Hoon Prem Rogi” appears below. The background depicts several dancers hand drawn in stick figure style.
The color of this Raj Kapoor movie poster is split into two parts, the right being in blue and left appearing in yellow. Typography used in this original Prem Rog poster is entirely in English, with the title illustrated in a striking 3D red font, outlined in black and white.
The soundtrack album of Prem Rog (1982) was composed by hit duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. It contained the smash hit song, “Yeh Galiyan Yeh Chaubara, Yahan Aana Na Dobara” sung by Lata Mangeshkar, which is fondly remembered and played till today. “Mohabbat Hai Kya Cheez Humko Batao” and “Meri Kismat Mein Tu Nahin Shayad” sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Suresh Wadkar were also popular at the time of the film’s release.
