Old vintage poster for sale: Ratnadeep (1979).
This is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the old 1979 Hindi drama written and directed by one of the masters of middle-of-the-road cinema, Basu Chatterjee.
Produced by R. Kannan and R. Jagannath, Ratnadeep (1979) starred Hema Malini and Girish Karnad in key roles. Released under the Gayatri Movies banner, the film also starred A.K. Hangal, Prema Narayan, Dheeraj Kumar, Sulochana Latkar and Gautam Sarin in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the debut release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1979), this old vintage poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Ratnadeep poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a poster design studio in Bombay.
A stunningly realistic hand painted portrait of actress Hema Malini is seen dominating this old vintage poster. Fiery orange and yellow hues have been used to illustrate her face, while a glowing lamp stand full of diyas is seen in the foreground. The artwork brilliantly captures the depth in her moist eyes.
Girish Karnad is seen leaning over Hema Malini at the bottom (who is refusing to be touched by him), while a fire rages all around them.
The fiery shades used in this old vintage poster give it an eye catchy appearance. Typography used in this Hema Malini poster is entirely in English. The title appears in a calligraphy styled font in white with a black border at the top.
The soundtrack album of Ratnadeep (1979) was composed by one of the greatest music composers in Indian cinema, R. D. Burman. Lyrics were written by one of greatest Urdu poets in Indian cinema, Gulzar. It featured the memorable classic, “Kabhi Kabhi Sapna Lagta Hai” sung by Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar.
