Featured here is an actual surviving old Bollywood poster of the classic 1993 Hindi romantic action drama directed by Ramesh Talwar that starred Madhuri Dixit in the titular role in a love triangle with Rishi Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt.

Produced by D.K. Chawla and released under the banner of Parul Films International, Sahibaan (1993) also starred Sonu Walia, Bharat Kapoor, Kiran Kumar, Satyendra Kapoor, Javed Khan, Anjana Mumtaz and Beena Banerjee in supporting roles. Tinnu Anand, Mangal Dhillon, Sudhir Pandey and Manjeet Kullar made special appearances in this Bollywood drama.

Shot extensively in Himachal Pradesh, Sahibaan (1993) told the story of innocent village girl Sahibaan (Madhuri Dixit) who falls in love with shepherd Gopi (Rishi Kapoor). Kunwar Vijay Pal Singh (Sanjay Dutt) who is a benevolent prince with a vice for alcohol and women, rules the area. He is strongly opposed by a ruthless capitalist, Tikka (Kiran Kumar). The prince falls for Sahibaan and wants to marry her, while queen Rajkumari Razee (Sonu Walia) falls for the poor shepherd Rishi Kapoor, setting off a chain of dramatic events.

Printed and circulated during the release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1990s), this old Bollywood poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This Sahibaan movie poster was originally designed using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas techniques as well as photographic collage by an art studio in Bombay and features stunning illustrated artwork.

Two striking symmetrical hand painted portraits of actors Rishi Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt are seen on the top left and right respectively. A large still photograph of actress Madhuri Dixit is seen at the center, suggesting the love triangle plot of the film. The actress is seen again illustrated in a stick figure drawing on the bottom right of this Sahibaan movie poster.

Typography used in this old Sanjay Dutt poster is primarily in Devanagari Hindi, with the title translated into English as well. The film’s titles are illustrated in a handwritten 3D font in a gradient of yellow and orange, standing out against a black background. A flute (played by shepherd Rishi Kapoor in the film) is seen underlining the title of this Madhuri Dixit poster. A combination of red and blue is seen diffused into the background.

The soundtrack album of Sahibaan (1993) was composed by Shiv-Hari, while lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. It featured the super hit songs, “Is Mele Mein Log Aate Hain Kho Jaate Hain” and “Sahibaan Meri Sahibaan” sung by Jolly Mukherjee & Anuradha Paudwal.
