Indian mythology posters for sale: Sant Gyaneshwar (1964).
This is a rare surviving original vintage Bollywood movie poster of the 1964 Hindi film directed by Manibhai Vyas that was based on the 13th century intellectual enlightened spiritual leader, Saint Gyaneshwar.
The film starred Sudhir Kumar, Surekha, Babloo, Shahu Modak, Jeevan, Ulhas, Sulochana Latkar, Asit Sen, Madan Puri and Bharat Bhushan.
Printed and circulated during the screening of the film in theaters (somewhere in the late 1960s), this vintage Indian mythology poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This original Sant Gyaneshwar poster features a stunning hand drawn portrait of the lead actor in deep mediation sitting cross legged in a yogic lotus position. A garland is seen around his neck. This old Bollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a movie poster design studio in Delhi.
A soothing blue background is seen behind the saint. Typography used in this Indian mythology poster is in Devanagari Hindi as well as in English at the bottom.
Lyrics of an award winning song from the film sung by Lata Mangeshkar, “Jyot Se Jyot Jagate Chalo, Prem Ki Ganga Bahate Chalo” are seen written on the top against a red background.
The soundtrack album of Sant Gyaneshwar was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and lyrics were penned by Bharat Vyas. Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh and Manna Dey gave their voices to the songs which became extremely popular at the time of the film’s release.
