Rare Bollywood movies poster for sale: Sati Vaishalini (1959).
Featured here is a vintage Bollywood poster of the old 1959 spiritual Hindi film directed by Sadhu Singh that starred Sulochana Latkar in the titular role along with Trilok Kapoor.
Produced by P.N. Rangeen under the Rati Chitra banner, Sati Vaishalini (1959) narrated the story of Vaishalini who embraced asceticism after the passing of her husband. Based on the ancient Sanskrit text of Markandeya Purana, Sati Vaishalini (1959) also starred Lalita Pawar, Ratnamala, Krishnakumari, Niranjan Sharma, Nand Kishore, Tiwari, Shyam, Hari, Krishna Kumar, Roshanlal, Heeralal, Sheela Kashmiri, Savita Chatterjee, Jyoti, Niranjan Tiwari and Kamal Kapoor in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the film’s first release in theaters (somewhere in 1959), this Sati Vaishalini poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a movie poster design studio in Bombay, this rare Bollywood movies poster features a striking design.
Actress Sulochana Latkar who plays the titular role of Sati Vaishalini is depicted in a beautiful hand painted illustration in this vintage Bollywood poster. She is depicted with her eyes closed in deep meditation, seated in a lotus yoga pose under a tree in the wilderness. Her renouncement of earthly life in lieu of spiritual seeking is further depicted with a sword lying at her feet in it’s royal scabbard.
Typography used in this rare Bollywood movies poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, with the title appearing in black with a yellow outline. The text stands out against a minimal white background.
The soundtrack album of Sati Vaishalini (1959) was composed by Premnath, while lyrics were written by Bharat Vyas. It featured the popular song, “Jab Tak Khada Himalay Hai” sung by Mohammed Rafi.
