Jaya Bhaduri photo poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster of the old 1971 Hindi film directed by Sudhendu Roy that starred Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan in the lead role.
Produced by Tarachand Barjatya and released under the banner of India’s leading production house, Rajshri Productions, Uphaar (1971) also starred Swarup Dutt, Kamini Kaushal, Leela Mishra and Nana Palsikar in supporting roles.
Selected as India’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 45th Academy Awards, Uphaar (1971) was an adaption of a short story named “Samapti” (The End) written by nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The same short story was earlier adapted into the cult Bengali film Teen Kanya (1961) directed by legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray.
Printed and circulated during the initial release run of the film (somewhere in the early 1970s), this old Bollywood poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This vintage Jaya Bhaduri photo poster was originally designed in mixed media collage format by leading Bombay based Bollywood poster painter, C. Mohan. His vertical signature is seen on the bottom right of this Bollywood poster.
Two striking photos of lead actress Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan are seen prominently in the foreground of this vintage Bollywood poster. The first is a full length black and white photograph on the left, in which the actress is seen in a childlike pose. A second sepia tinted close up is seen on the right, where she appears mature and dignified.
Typography master C. Mohan uses a brilliant red background to make the lettering stand out. An announcement on the top of this Jaya Bhaduri photo poster reads, “Based On Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s Authored Samapti.”
Typography used in this Jaya Bhaduri photo poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi. The title is illustrated in a striking yellow font on the top that stands out in stark contrast against the red background.
The soundtrack album of Uphaar (1971) was composed by noted music composer duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. It featured the popular song “Main Ek Raja Hoon Tu Ek Rani Hai” sung by Mohammad Rafi.
