Unusual movie posters for sale: Waqt Ki Deewar (1981).
Featured here is an actual surviving old Bollywood poster of the 1981 Hindi film directed by Ravi Tandon that starred Sanjeev Kumar and Jeetendra in lead roles.
Produced by T.C. Dewan and presented under the Modern Pictures banner, Waqt Ki Deewar (1981) also starred Neetu Singh, Sulakshana Pandit, Amjad Khan, Pran, Deven Verma, Kader Khan, Satyendra Kapoor, Paintal, Poornima, Preeti Ganguly, Rajan Haksar and Sunder in supporting roles. Nazneen, Jayshree Talpade and Rajendra Nath made special appearances in the film.
Waqt Ki Deewar (1981) saw actor Pran reprise his character of a Pathan called Sher Khan from the blockbuster Amitabh film, Zanjeer (1973).
A potboiler, Waqt Ki Deewar (1981) told the story of brothers Vikram (Sanjeev Kumar) and Munna (Jeetendra) separated at birth after their father Lala Kedarnath (Kader Khan) is framed in a murder and jailed for life. Vikram grows up to become a master criminal, specializing in stealing jewels. Munna on the other hand is raised by a Pathan called Sher Khan (Pran) to embrace an honest life and becomes a garage mechanic. One day, Lala Kedarnath returns home to find that his daughter Sarla (Nazneen) has committed suicide after being raped. He is deceived into believing the man responsible for brutalizing his daughter is the elder brother of Thakur Dayal Singh (Amjad Khan). In reality, Thakur Dayal Singh has committed the crime and laid the charge on his elder brother, whom he strangles to death. Thakur Dayal Singh then stages his elder brother’s corpse seated at a desk, knowing well that Lala Kedarnath will shoot him to avenge the death of his daughter. In a fit of rage Lala Kedarnath arrives at Thakur’s mansion and shoots his dead body believing him to be alive, leading to his arrest for murder. Years later, fate reunites father and son when Vikram is imprisoned for the theft of temple jewels and comes across Lala Kedarnath in jail. When Vikram is released from prison he is shocked to learn that the man who sent him to prison for the temple jewelry heist is actually his long lost brother Munna. The two team up to exact their revenge on the man who destroyed their family, Thakur Dayal Singh.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film (somewhere in the 1980s), this Waqt Ki Deewar movie poster was designed and printed for publicity of the film in north Indian theaters but never ended up being used.
This unusual movie poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a Bollywood poster art studio in Delhi and features striking artwork.
The two lead actors Sanjeev Kumar and Jeetendra are seen in striking pop art illustrations in this vintage Bollywood poster. Sanjeev Kumar appears on the left smoking a cigarette and pointing a pistol, while Jeetendra is seen on the right with his fist clenched.
The entire poster is hand painted in a stunning three tone combination of yellow, fawn and red, giving it a very unique look. Set against a black background, the artwork in the foreground appears in vivid contrast. Typography used in this unusual movie poster is entirely in English, with the title appearing in red in diagonal font.
The soundtrack album of Waqt Ki Deewar (1981) was composed by hit duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. It featured the popular song, “Chal Cinema Dekhan Ko Jaaye” sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle.
