Dharmendra poster for sale: Yakeen (1969).
This is an actual surviving original vintage Bollywood poster of the 1969 Hindi film produced by Deven Verma and directed by Brij Sadanah that starred Dharmendra in a double role along with Sharmila Tagore.
Edited by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Yakeen also starred David, Kamini Kaushal, Anwar Hussain, Asit Sen, Helen, M. B. Shetty and Mukri in supporting roles.
Dharmendra played both the hero and the villain in a double role in Yakeen. One of the songs from the film, “Yakeen Karlo Mujhe Mohabbat Hai” sung by Mohammed Rafi featured actress Sharmila Tagore in micro shorts, which was very forward for it’s time. The film was a super hit at the box office, making this old Dharmendra poster, highly collectible!
Printed and circulated during the screening of the film in theaters (somewhere in the early 1970s), this Yakeen poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
Originally designed in mixed media format using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas techniques as well as photographic collage by a Bollywood poster design studio in Bombay, this vintage Dharmendra poster features a striking blue background.
Two black and white photos of the superstar holding a rifle in one and a pistol in the other appear on opposite sides of the poster. The title appears in between the two still photos along with the credits.
Typography used in this Bollywood poster is a combination of both Devanagari Hindi as well as English. The title uses red lettering with a white border, which set against a blue background instantly grabs the viewer’s attention.
An announcement on the top of this Dharmendra poster reads, “Yakeen Film Ke Gaane” (Yakeen Film’s Songs). Lyrics of four chart busters from the sound track album are mentioned on the top, namely: “Yakeen Karlo Mujhe Mohabbat Hai Tumse Tumse ….” (Believe Me I Am In Love With You With You), “Gar Tum Bhula Na Doge Sapne Ye Sach Hi Honge ….” (If You Don’t Forget These Dreams Will Come True), “Baharon Ki Baraat Aa Gayi … Khushi Ko Leke ……” (The Procession of Spring Is Here With Happiness) and “Bach Bach Ke Bachke Kahan Jaoge ……” (Escape Escape Escape Where Will You Go).
The soundtrack of Yakeen was composed by Shankar Jaikishan, while lyrics were written by Hasrat Jaipuri. Songs from the film, most notably, “Baharon Ki Baraat Aa Gayi,” “Gar Tum Bhula Na Doge” and “Yakeen Karlo Mujhe Mohabbat Hai” all sung by Mohammed Rafi are fondly remembered and played till today. Helen was featured in the cabaret song, “Bachke Kahan Jaoge” sung by Asha Bhosle.
