Duniya Ka Mela poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving old Bollywood poster of the 1974 Hindi romantic comedy drama directed by Kundan Kumar that starred Rekha in the lead role opposite Sanjay Khan.
Produced by G.M. Roshan and released under the Pearl Pictures banner, Duniya Ka Mela (1974) also starred Bindu, Ranjeet, Jeevan, Mehmood, Rehman, Purnima, Jagdish Raj, Sunder, M.B. Shetty and Bhagwan Sinha in supporting roles. Ajit, Asrani and Mukri made special appearances in the film.
Duniya Ka Mela (1974) told the story of three kids who go missing during a mela (carnival) when it is hit by a storm. The three kids are swapped between different classes of society. Baby girl Shama/Munni (Rekha) gets adopted and raised as a dancer by a poor duo of traveling performers struggling to make ends meet (Mehmood & Jeevan). Munna (Sanjay Khan) is adopted by a wealthy judge and his wife (Rehman & Purnima), while Shaam (Ranjeet) is raised by a petty criminal. Now grown up as adults, fate brings two of them together and they fall in love with each other without realizing how their lives are interconnected.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film (somewhere in the late 1970s), this Duniya Ka Mela poster was originally designed and printed for publicity of the film in north Indian theaters but never ended up being used.
This old Rekha poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a Bollywood poster art studio in Delhi and features quirky artwork.
Actress Rekha is seen in her character of a dancer illustrated prominently on the top. Actor Sanjay Khan is seen wielding a pistol alongside in a hand drawn portrait on the top right. Comedian Mehmood is seen smoking a pipe below, while Ajit is depicted smoking a cigarette. Ranjeet and Bindu are seen in a hand drawn illustration at the bottom left. A fight scene is depicted on the top left in hand drawn format.
Typography used in this Rekha movie poster is a mix of both Devanagari Hindi as well as English. The title of the film appears in blue with a red and yellow border in a high impact font. Background used in this old Bollywood poster is a mix of gradients on the top half and minimal white at the bottom.
The soundtrack album of Duniya Ka Mela (1974) was composed by hit duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal, while lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. It featured the catchy song, “Dil Khol Ke Mainu Aaj Naach Lene De” sung by melody queen Lata Mangeshkar.
