Do Chor poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving old Bollywood poster of the 1972 Hindi romantic drama directed by Padmanabh that starred Dharmendra and Tanuja in lead roles as two thieves.
Produced by Raj Khosla and released under his Raj Khosla Films banner, Do Chor (1972) also starred K.N. Singh, Trilok Kapoor, Jagdish Raj, Bhagwan Dada, Dhumal, Sajjan, Murad, Randhir, Krishnakant, Shobhna Samarth, Asit Sen, Leela Mishra, Jagdish Raj, Jalal Agha, Mohan Choti, Viju Khote and Gurnam Singh in supporting roles. Laxmi Chhaya made a special appearance in the film.
Shot extensively in Goa and Bombay, Do Chor (1972) told the story of a thief called Tony (Dharmendra) who is prime suspect in a series of sensational burglaries that have taken place in his neighborhood. The thief strikes four wealthy men, each time with the same modus operandi. A single piece of jewellery is taken from each of the four men, while leaving other valuables untouched. No clues are left behind by the thief except a swastika. To prove his innocence, Tony sets out to find the real burglar and catches Sandhya (Tanuja) red handed. He learns from her that she is not stealing but rather reclaiming her mother’s possessions that she had saved for her wedding. The jewelry was usurped from her mother by the four wicked wealthy merchants after her father’s death, leaving her mother institutionalized in a mental facility. Tony falls in love with Sandhya and joins her mission of recovering all of her mother’s usurped possessions and putting the four wealthy men behind bars.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film (somewhere in the late 1970s), this old Bollywood poster was designed for publicity of the film in north Indian theaters but never ended up being used.
This Do Chor poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a Bollywood poster art studio in Delhi called Saraswati Art and features quirky artwork.
A large illustrated full length portrait of superstar Dharmendra holding a pistol in one hand and a briefcase in the other dominates the poster. Actress Tanuja is seen on the bottom right smiling away in the character of a hippie, wearing a revealing low cut top. The portrait is depicted from the hit song, “Yaari Ho Gayee Yaar Se Lak Tunu Tunu.” An action scene in which Dharmendra is grappling with a knife wielding man is seen on the top left, while he appears stealing jewelry from an open cupboard on the top right.
Typography used in this Do Chor poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi, with the title appearing in red accentuated with a yellow outline and a black border. Lyrics of the hit song, “Yaari Ho Gayee Yaar Se Lak Tunu Tunu” appear written in a curvy musical font above actress Tanuja’s portrait.
The soundtrack album of Do Chor (1972) was composed by music maestro R.D. Burman, while lyrics were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The album featured the popular song “Yaari Ho Gayee Yaar Se Lak Tunu Tunu” sung by melody queen Lata Mangeshkar. “Kaali Palak Teri Gori Khulne Lagi Hai” sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar was another very popular duet from the film.
