Printed and circulated a few years after the first release of the film, this movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Amitabh movie poster was originally designed by cutting out images of actors from separate still photographs (shot on set location) and pasting them on a board. The typography is hand drawn / hand painted, which makes this poster an interesting mix of two very different design techniques.
The poster features a large cut out photograph of Amitabh Bachchan holding a glass of whiskey (typifying his character as an alcoholic in the film), with a still photo of lead actress Jaya Prada (who plays a singer in the film) on the top. The typography used in this poster is entirely in English.

Sharaabi became a silver jubilee “Blockbuster” at the box office and went on to be another mega hit of superstar Amitabh Bachchan. This was also one of Amitabh’s last films before he temporarily gave up acting to venture into politics.
Songs like “Inteha Ho Gayi Intezaar Ki” sung by Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle and “De De Pyaar De” by Kishore Kumar became a rage and continue to be played till today.

The poster was originally designed on a hand painted canvas, making it very collectable. The artist has chosen a very simplistic approach in hand painting this poster, as seen by the large and highly realistic portraits of the lead actors. The villain, Ranjeet on the top as well as the hero of the film, Shatrughan Sinha are seen holding guns, giving the poster an action oriented look. The typography used in this poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi except for a translation of the title in English on the bottom right.
