This is an actual surviving set of six old Bollywood cinema showcards of the 1980 film that featured two of the biggest superstars in Indian cinema of the time, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra.
Printed and circulated somewhere during the original first release of the film, this fabulous set of old Bollywood cinema showcards was originally designed for publicity of the film inside a theater.
Showcards were used as pin ups on notice boards inside foyers of cinema halls. Printed on photo paper, they are mounted on cardboard to make them easy to display.

This stunning set comprises six individual showcards, originally designed on canvas boards in hand painted format by the greatest and highest paid Bollywood movie poster artist of all time, Diwakar Karkare (owner of Studio Diwakar), further adding to its desirability and collectible quotient.
Artist Diwakar Karkare’s signature style and mastery over the paint brush is evident in the captivating artwork of these old Bollywood cinema showcards. Credited with designing most of Amitabh Bachchan’s old movies posters, Diwakar paints Amitabh’s face flawlessly using two different textures – one a more rugged and macho portrait in an action packed setting; and a second more softer style to capture him in his romantic best opposite Rekha in this stunning rare picture painted showcard. Villains Ajit, Amjad Khan and Prem Chopra are seen in stunning portraits on one of the showcards as well.
Released in 1980, Ram Balram starred Dharmendra as “Ram” and Amitabh Bachchan as “Balram.” Zeenat Aman and Rekha were paired opposite the two, while Ajit, Amjad Khan and Prem Chopra were cast as villains in the film. The film marked the third successful venture of Bollywood’s biggest superstars of the time, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, who previously were seen in Chupke Chupke and the cult classic, Sholay.
Ram Balram was released at the time when Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s rumored secret affair had received widespread publicity. In the following year, the cult romantic classic Silsila was released, making it the last film to feature Rekha opposite Amitabh Bachchan.

Deewaar (The Wall), is a cult 1975 Hindi film directed by Yash Chopra and written by Salim-Javed. Starring the greatest superstar of Indian cinema Amitabh Bachchan, Deewaar tells the story of two impoverished brothers (played by Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor) who struggle to survive on the indifferent streets of Mumbai after the passing away of their father.
One of them, Shashi Kapoor chooses the path of good, becoming a police officer. Amitabh on the other hand turns into a mafia don and amasses quick wealth and success. This creates an obvious divide or enmity between them, inspiring the title of the film. Deewaar is believed to be based loosely on the real life of one of Mumbai’s iconic gangsters, Haji Mastan. For preparation of his character as a gangster in the film, it is further believed that Amitabh Bachchan met Haji Mastan in person to study his mannerisms.
Deewaar is widely credited for establishing Amitabh Bachchan as the “angry young man” of Bollywood. Actress Parveen Babi was seen as the new age woman in Indian cinema, whose character appears as a liberated woman smoking and drinking, living-in with her lover – defying all traditional norms of the time. The brilliant storyline and dialogues of the film established Salim-Javed as the most sought after writers in Indian cinema. It is believed they were paid as high as actors in subsequent films they worked on, thanks to the success of Deewaar.
Deewaar bagged numerous awards, and is credited as a must see film in Indian cinema. The music of the film was composed by RD Burman. The track “Keh Doon Tumhe” was a chartbuster.
One of the dialogues from the film, “Mere Paas Maa Hai” is regarded as one of the greatest dialogues ever in Indian cinema and has inspired countless spoofs over the years.
Danny Boyle, who described Deewaar as being “absolutely key to Indian cinema”, cited the film as an influence on his Academy Award winning Slumdog Millionaire (2008).

This is an actual surviving set of old Bollywood lobby cards of the 1952 Hindi film that starred Bharat Bhushan in the lead role as “Baiju” and Meena Kumari as his love interest.
Meena Kumari went on to win her first Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1954 for Baiju Bawra. Coincidentally, the category for Best Actress was introduced by the Filmfare Awards Committee for the first time during the same year (1954). As such, Baiju Bawra marked not just the first Filmfare Best Actress Award of Meena Kumari’s career (she would subsequently go on to win three more Best Actress trophies in her career), but also the first Filmfare Best Actress Award ever declared.

The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Prada, Pran, Om Prakash and Ranjeet. The film’s blockbuster music was composed by Bappi Lahiri, for which he bagged several awards. Sharaabi became a silver jubilee “Blockbuster” at the box office and went on to be another mega hit of superstar Amitabh Bachchan. This was also one of Amitabh’s last films before he temporarily gave up acting to venture into politics.

This is an actual surviving vintage Bollywood showcard of the 1976 Hindu mythology film which featured Ravi Kumar and Jayapradha in lead roles.
Printed and circulated during the first release of the film (somewhere in the mid 1970s), this old Bollywood showcard was designed and printed for publicity of the film inside a cinema hall.
Showcards were used as pin ups on notice boards inside foyers of cinema halls. Printed on photo paper, they were often mounted on cardboard to make them easy to display. This rare surviving showcard was actually issued to a cinema hall that screened the film Sita Swayamvar (1976), making it highly collectible!
