Featured here is a rare original Hollywood movie poster of the cult 1985 sci-fi film co-written and directed by Robert Zemeckis that starred Michael J. Fox in the lead role as “Marty McFly.” along with Christopher Lloyd, who played the role of mad scientist “Doc.”

Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover and Thomas F. Wilson played supporting roles in this blockbuster hit that was the highest grossing film of 1985 worldwide.

The winner of an Academy Award, three Saturn Awards, and a Hugo Award, Back to the Future (1985) is considered one of the greatest science-fiction films ever made, making this original Hollywood poster, highly collectible!

Printed and circulated in India during the local release of the film (somewhere in the late 1980s), this Back to the Future poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.

This vintage Hollywood poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by a poster art studio. Lead actor Michael J. Fox is seen in a stunning hand painted illustration in his character of “Marty McFly.” He appears looking at his wristwatch with a shocked expression on his face. The open gull-wing door of the iconic DMC DeLorean car to which the time travel device (flux capacitor) is mounted is seen in the background. Burning tire tracks are seen below.

This Back to the Future poster original bears the printed signed of the poster artist on the bottom right along with the date, i.e. 1985. Steven Spielberg is credited twice on the poster – on the top as a presenter and again at the bottom as an executive producer.

The title of the film appears in a stunning creative font. The word “Back” is pushed to the left along with an arrow pointing in the same direction, signifying the past. “To The Future” is written slanting to the right, i.e. forward. The time travel theme of the film is further elaborated with the following text seen on the top left of this Back to the Future poster: “He was never in time for his classes … He wasn’t in time for his dinner … Then one day … He wasn’t in his time at all.”

In 2007, the United States Library of Congress selected Back to the Future (1985) for preservation in the National Film Registry. The film was followed by two sequels, Back to the Future Part II (1989) and Back to the Future Part III (1990), both of which were hugely successful. A theme song from the film, “The Power of Love” became very popular at the time of it’s release.
