Barsaat 1949 poster for sale.
Featured here is a vintage original Bollywood poster of the classic 1949 Hindi film directed by the “Showman of Indian cinema” Raj Kapoor, which featured him in the lead role opposite Nargis. The film also marked the debut of actress Nimmi who played a supporting role.
Barsaat was one of the first major hits directed by Raj Kapoor. Following the success of Barsaat, Raj Kapoor purchased the iconic RK Studios in 1950, making this vintage poster, highly collectible!
One of the earliest films shot in the Kashmir valley, Barsaat (1949) told the story of two contrasting love stories. Pran (Raj Kapoor) and Gopal (Prem Nath) are two friends who go on a holiday to Kashmir valley, where they come across two Kashmiri girls, Reshma (Nargis) and Neela (Nimmi). Pran genuinely falls in love with Reshma and the two come together defying several hardships and trials. However, Gopal has only lust for Neela and no intention of marrying her. When he realizes his mistake, it is too late and he loses Neela forever.
Printed and circulated to cinemas during the actual screening of the film in Kolkata theaters (somewhere in the 1960s/1970s), this rare Barsaat 1949 poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This hand drawn Bollywood poster was designed by a poster art studio in Kolkata and features striking artwork. The “Golden Couple” of Indian cinema, Raj Kapoor and Nargis are seen in a romantic dancing pose, performing the iconic dip dance move. Raj Kapoor is seen holding a violin in one hand and Nargis’ waist with the other.
Originally designed by master of realism S.M. Pandit (Sambanand Monappa Pandit), this iconic poster design was liked by Raj Kapoor so much that he made it a part of his RK Studios logo.
Much more than just a poster, this rare Raj Kapoor movie poster is an icon of Indian cinema!
The legendary soundtrack album of Barsaat (1949) was composed by debutante music directors Shankar Jaikishan. Barsaat established their careers as India’s finest music directors in the years to come. Tracks from the film such as “Hawa Mein Udta Jaye,” “Jiya Beqarar Hai” and “Patli Kamar Hai” all sung by Lata Mangeshkar went on to become cult classics.
