Film posters Bollywood for sale: Chahat (1971).
This is an actual surviving original Bollywood poster for sale of the 1971 romantic Hindi film directed by Moni Bhattacharjee that starred Mala Sinha, Jeetendra, Mumtaz and Biswajeet in key roles.
Produced by G. M. Roshan under the New Film Corporation banner, Chahat (1971) also starred Achala Sachdev, Asit Sen and Jayshree T in supporting roles.
Believed to be started in the 1960s, the film’s delayed release in 1971 made it the only black & white film of Jeetendra’s film career.
Printed and circulated during the first release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1971), this is one of the rare film posters of Bollywood that was designed and printed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This Chahat poster was originally hand painted on canvas by one of the best Bollywood poster studios of all time, Studio Diwakar in Bombay. The printed signature of master Bollywood poster painter, Diwakar Karkare (the highest paid movie poster designer of his time) is seen on the bottom right of this vintage film poster.
A stunning illustration of the lead couple Biswajeet and Mala Sinha in a romantic pose is seen in this old Bollywood film poster. Designer Diwakar exercises remarkable restraint, producing portraits which fade into abstract from the shoulders below. The plain white background gives this poster a very minimal look.
Lettering used in this poster is entirely in English. The title appears in a catchy red font with a yellow border at the bottom of this vintage Bollywood film poster.
Music of Chahat (1971) was composed by the hit duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
