Gun movie poster for sale: Dhund (1973).
Featured here is a rare surviving original Bollywood poster of the 1973 Hindi thriller produced and directed by B.R. Chopra that starred Sanjay Khan, Zeenat Aman, Danny Denzongpa and Navin Nischol in key roles.
Inspired by Agatha Christie’s 1958 play, “The Unexpected Guest,” Dhund (1973) also starred Deven Verma, Madan Puri, Ashok Kumar and Jagdish Raj in supporting roles.
Printed and circulated during the debut release of the film in theaters (somewhere in 1973), this old Bollywood poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This gun movie poster was originally designed in hand painted oil on canvas format by the leading and highest paid Bollywood poster artist of his time, Diwakar Karkare of Studio Diwakar fame.
Noted Bollywood poster painter Diwakar’s command over the brush is seen in a stunning illustration of actress Zeenat Aman on the top. The artwork exudes raw emotion, with despair written on her face. Her beauty and persona is captured with expert brush strokes, with strands of her hair flowing over her face and the pout on her lips accentuated with the gloss of her lipstick.
A close up portrait of Navin Nischol appears illustrated at the bottom of this Dhund movie poster. Noted Bollywood poster artist Diwakar uses a measured and restrained approach in this gun movie poster, keeping the background minimal white, except for a single blue line at the top. The strong contrasting tones of the portraits stand out against the same.
Typography used in this Bollywood poster is entirely in Devanagari Hindi. The title, true to it’s meaning is encased in a cloud of haze. A hand holding a long barrel pistol is seen in silhouette on the left of this gun movie poster.
The soundtrack album of Dhund (1973) was composed by Ravi, while lyrics were written by Sahir Ludhianvi. One of the tracks from the film, “Uljhan Suljhe Na, Rasta Sujhe Na” sung by Asha Bhosle became popular during it’s release.
