Rare hand drawn Bollywood poster of the cult Amitabh film Don (1978) for sale.
Featured here for sale is an actual surviving old Bollywood poster of the 1978 action film that featured the biggest superstar of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan in a double role.
The film is considered one of the most iconic movies ever made in Bollywood and finds mention among the cult films of Indian cinema, making this poster highly collectible!
Printed and circulated a few years after the first release of the film (somewhere in the 1980s), this hand drawn vintage Bollywood movie poster was originally designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This two sheet Don Amitabh poster measures an amazing 60″x40″ inches in size when its two individual sheets are joined or pasted together. The poster comprises two separate single sheets, each measuring 40″x30″ inches.
This Don movie poster was originally designed in hand painted format using oil paints on canvas by a small time art studio, giving it a very quirky hand drawn appearance. This eccentric, hand painted old movie poster captures the original angry young man of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, in a striking pose holding a pistol in his hand. A portrait of Bollywood's greatest sex symbol, Zeenat Aman appears alongside, in which she is seen in a boyish avatar holding a pistol in her hand. A smaller portrait of supporting actor Pran is seen at the bottom of this beautiful hand drawn old Bollywood movie poster. The film's title, Don, appears in yellow in stunning typography.
Featured here for sale is a two sheet vintage Bollywood movie poster. Two sheet posters comprise two separate individual single sheet posters measuring 40″x30″ inches each. When pasted together they line up perfectly and together form one single two sheet poster. In the image shown alongside, there may be a slight gap visible between the two – as the images of the top and bottom half have been photographed individually and then joined together digitally. When framed or pasted, there will be no gap visible between the two sheets and the appearance of the poster would be seamless – i.e. just like a single sheet poster.
Don is a 1978 blockbuster Indian action film starring the greatest superstar of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan (in a double role), Zeenat Aman, Pran, Iftekhar & Helen. The film is considered scriptwriting duo Salim-Javed's finest masterpiece ever. Don took close to four years to complete and has managed to attain cult status in Indian cinema.
Such was the impact of the film that it continues to spawn remakes till today. Don was remade several times in different southern languages. The film was remade in 2006 with Bollywood's current superstar Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) in the lead role of Don alongside Priyanka Chopra. The remake proved to be one of the highest grossing films of the year 2006. A sequel of the remake, Don 2 was released in 2011.
One of the best dialogues in Indian cinema of all time is the unforgettable one liner from the film, “Don Ko Pakadna Mushkil Hi Nahin. Namumkin Hai” (Its not difficult to catch Don. Its impossible).
Songs from the film went on to become smash hits, with tracks sung by Kishore Kumar like “Main Hoon Don,” “Yeh Hai Bambai Nagariya” & “Khaike Paan Banaras Wala” still played today.
