Dui Bon poster for sale.
Featured here is an actual surviving original movie poster of the 1955 black and white Bengali drama directed by Chandrasekhar Bose that starred Jamuna Sinha and Sabitri Chatterjee in the titular role of two sisters, opposite Bikash Roy.
Produced by Eagle Productions, Dui Bon (1955) also starred Parijat Bose, Nani Majumdar, Nripati Chattopadhyay, Aparna Devi, Kamala Adhikari, Chandrabati Devi, Gourishankar, Master Bibhu and Jahar Gangopadhyay in supporting roles.
Dui Bon (1955) told the story of two cousin sisters living together in one house, Himani and Ulka who have contrasting personalities and privileges. As the daughter of the patriarch of the household, Ulka is modern, free-spirited and privileged, attending college and pursuing music. The niece of the patriarch on the other hand, Himani (played by Jamuna Sinha) lives a life of neglect, doing household chores. When a promising young writer Anando (Bikash Roy) rents a room in their home, a love triangle between the three develops.
Printed and circulated during a subsequent release run of the film in theaters (somewhere in the 1960s), this Dui Bon poster was designed for publicity of the film but never ended up being used.
This old Bengali cinema poster was originally designed in mixed media format using a combination of both hand painted oil on canvas as well as photographic collage techniques by a poster art studio in Kolkata called and features striking artwork.
A close up hand drawn illustration of actress Jamuna Sinha dominates the top half of the poster. The artwork is set against a red background which gives the poster a very catchy appearance. Black and white still photos of Bikash Roy and Sabitri Chatterjee are seen below along with tinted photos of supporting cast.
Typography used in this old movie poster is entirely in Bengali, with the title appearing in a very creatively styled font in white, standing out in stark contrast against a red background.
The soundtrack album of Dui Bon (1955) was composed by Manmathalal Das with lyrics written by Bimalchandra Ghosh.
